******************************* Sault Ste Marie Safe Communities Partnership

Sault Ste Marie Safe Communities Partnership wishes to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mayor John Rowswell.

Mayor Rowswell was a strong supporter of our organization and was deeply committed to injury prevention in both his political and professional lives.

It was a privilege to work with Mayor Rowswell in having our community dedicated as an international safe community by the World Health Organization.

He was a passionate leader who truly cared for our community and the well being of its citizens.

He will be deeply missed.

******************************* Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association

The Sault Ste Marie Professional Fire Fighters’ Association sadly mourns the passing of Mayor John Rowswell.

He was a staunch advocate for community and firefighter safety.

The friendship and mutual respect developed between Mayor Rowswell and firefighters was not inherited through our community roles.

It was due to John's willingness to listen and to take the time to understand the issues and concerns surrounding community and firefighter safety.

His dedication to the Sault and surrounding area went well beyond his known desire to make the Sault and district internationally attractive.

Mayor Rowswell not only envisioned a community that was both safe and financially stable to raise a family, but a community that would sustain generations of families.

e did not simply dream large, he worked diligently to pursue those dreams to ensure they are realized.

Mayor John's passing is a great loss for this community, and we hope his dreams are realized in his memory.

The Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association will dearly miss his friendship and community leadership.

Rest in peace, Mayor John.

******************************* CQI saddened by the loss of Mayor John Rowswell

The board and staff of Community Quality Research Institute (CQI) are deeply saddened by the passing of Mayor John Rowswell.

Mayor John was a driving force in community improvement efforts over the past ten years.

His leadership and vision through the “building an extraordinary community” process helped Sault Ste. Marie become the progressive city it is today.

It was our privilege to stand beside him as the National Quality Institute recognized Sault Ste. Marie with the nation’s first community building award.

John committed himself to public service for all the right reasons.

He truly loved this city, and sacrificed untold hours helping improve our quality of life.

Like Sault Ste. Marie, John truly was naturally gifted; his passion and dedication to our community will be felt for generations to come.
