Tony Martin pays tribute to John Rowswell

************************* SAULT STE. MARIE - Mayor John Rowswell will be remembered for his long public service for Sault Ste. Marie and his courageous fight “to the finish” with cancer, Sault MP Tony Martin said today. Hearing of the mayor’s death, Martin offered his condolences to Rowswell’s family, friends, Council and business colleagues. “My family, staff and I wish to express their admiration for John as a serious man and political leader who always had the good of his community at heart. While we were adversaries on some issues, I know from experience the extraordinary public scrutiny elected officials face. To carry on for so long while dealing with cancer is a lasting testament to John’s character. “He believed in Sault Ste. Marie in serving as mayor these past 10 years. My wife, Anna, and I enjoyed many social functions with John and Donna. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donna and family.”
