Rescue efforts continue at Elliot Lake mall (3 p.m. update)

ELLIOT LAKE - June 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. the Elliot Lake Emergency Management Team of the City of Elliot Lake conducted a press conference.

On June 23, 2012 at approximately 2:19 p.m. a report was received that a portion of the roof of the Algo Centre Mall had collapsed. 

Emergency Services responded and conducted an evacuation. 

They remained on scene conducting a search and rescue.

The Emergency Management Team provided the following information:

The City of Elliot Lake and Special Emergency Service teams remain on scene and continue to work on the stabilization of the affected area of the mall. 

Search and rescue dogs continue to be utilized in this process.

There is no confirmation on any loss of life. 

This is still a rescue effort.

The Information Centre for the public continues to be the W.H. Collins Hall.

Police continue checking reported missing persons. 

To report someone that may be missing, please call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The Emergency Management Team has scheduled a press conference at 5 p.m. on this date at The City of Elliot Lake Council Chambers, City Hall.

ELLIOT LAKE - June 24, 2012 at 9 a.m. the Elliot Lake Emergency Management Team of the City of Elliot Lake conducted a press release.

On June 23, 2012 at approximately 2:19 p.m. a report was received that a portion of the roof of the Algo Centre Mall had collapsed.

Emergency Services responded and conducted an evacuation. 

They remained on scene conducting a search and rescue.

The Emergency Management Team provided the following information:

The special teams remain on scene and the search and rescue dogs are also on scene.

The emergency services were removed from the scene at approximately 4 p.m. last night due to safety issues.

The Toronto Emergency Team is on scene assisting.

Twenty-two victims reported to the hospital and were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The police are currently checking on reported possible missing people.

At this time no casualties have been reported or confirmed.

The Emergency Management Team has scheduled a press conference at 1 p.m. on this date at The City of Elliot Lake Council Chambers, City Hall.
