NEWS RELEASE

*********************** Officers from several divisions within the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services continue to work on the double homicide that was discovered on April 20 just after 4 a.m.

Officers at that time discovered the bodies of 40-year-old Melody Burtis and her 8-year-son Harley Baxter-Burtis in a vehicle in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Albert Ouimet in the cemetery as well.

Officers have established that the victims and the accused were known to each other.

The public can be reassured that this tragic situation is not an indiscriminate act of violence and as a result there is no present concern for community safety.
