NEWS RELEASE

********************** Update to double murder - April 20 Just before 4 a.m. on the 20th of April, alert patrol officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service observed a car in the southwest corner of Greenwoods Cemetery located at the corner of Peoples Road and Fourth Line East.

Officers entered the cemetery to check out the suspicious vehicle.

The driver of the car then tried to evade the police within the cemetery yard.

When officers activated their roof lights to stop the vehicle the vehicle accelerated away from the cruiser, but did eventually stop with the male driver running from the vehicle and fleeing into a ravine area in the most south-west part of this section of the cemetery.

The male was apprehended without incident after a short foot pursuit.

The male was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving.

When officers checked the vehicle the accused had fled from they discovered the bodies of a female adult and a young male child.

The male was subsequently charged with two counts of murder.

The victims were pronounced dead by the coroner who attended at the scene.

City Police secured a large section of the cemetery this morning and have processed this crime scene including the vehicle.

The area has now been released and this part of the investigation has concluded.

33-year-old Albert Francis Ouimet of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of impaired driving and one count of breach of probation.

Mr. Ouimet has been remanded and will appear in bail court tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of death has not been determined at this point and autopsies will be conducted.
