During last night's 2010 Tourism Sault Ste. Marie Awards ceremony, guests were treated to a special surprise from Tourism Sault Ste. Marie Chair Donna Hilsinger.
As become her tradition, Hilsinger sang a song (this one written by her sister) for the occasion.
Her song mentioned many of the Sault's green assets and attractions.
It had a jazzy beat.
Most everyone in the room ended up finger-snapping along with it.
Hilsinger also talked about how well the members of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie work together and about how this strengthens the entire industry and the Sault's economy.
The evening's keynote speaker was Bruce Strapp, the former Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation chief executive officer, who recently accepted the position of executive director of Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
Strapp talked candidly about his move to the new offices just over two weeks ago and about the surprises he's finding as he becomes acquainted with new coworkers and new ways of doing things.
After lamenting the necessity to shorten his once eloquent and loquacious e-mail messages, Strapp was presented with a gift from Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, both to thank him for his willingness to speak to the guests at the award ceremony and for his years of service to the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation which oversees Tourism Sault Ste. Marie.
Following the presentation to Strapp and another long-time Tourism Sault Ste. Marie staffer who's leaving the organization, the awards were announced and presented.
