TourismAwards2010-05s

This award is intended to recognize an individual employed in the tourism industry who has contributed to the betterment of the tourism experience for visitors.

He or she exhibits a courteous, friendly manner; is customer service oriented and regularly goes beyond the expected duties and performances of their job responsibilities.

This year there was such a good response in terms of nominations that the Committee wanted to acknowledge three “Finalists” that have exemplified the traits outlined in the award criteria I just mentioned.

So each of these 3 Finalists have contributed to the betterment of the tourism experience for visitors – and in the opinion of the Judges, are all worthy of recognition for their tireless efforts.

From these three names the Judges then chose a winner.

The Finalists for the 2010 Customer Service Awards are:

- Beverley Barber – Travelodge

- Mike Freamon – Algoma’s Water Tower Inn and Suites - Danielle Simms – The Totem Pole

This year’s recipient is Mike Freamon, Assistant Reception Manager at Algoma’s water Tower Inn and Suites

Here's what they said about Freamon at last night's award ceremony.

************************* Mike is a self-described “Permanent Fixture” around the Water Tower Inn.

He first began his employment there in 1979, where he worked as a Porter

Following some time working at a Toronto airport hotel, he returned to the Inn to join the Reception Team as a front Desk Supervisor.

After working at another Sault Ste. Marie hotel as General Manager for a time, he returned to the Inn, once again in 2000 and has been exceeding guests expectations for over 10 years.

Mike is the resident computer expert at the Inn and has even been known to resolve guests car troubles, get hard to find groceries, take pets for a walk, when their owners are out, and even sing songs with bus tour groups as they depart the city.

He now shares his knowledge of the tourism industry as a teacher in the Hotel/Resort program at Sault College.

His two greatest passions are watching his daughter grow into a beautiful woman and living in Sault Ste. Marie, with the great outdoors right on his doorstep.
