Michael and family, I met your dad shortly after I moved to the Sault in 1969, and we became colleagues and friends as he was the art consultant at Ben R, where I was teaching. He very kindly created an oil painting of a small town in rural Saskatchewan which meant, and still means a great deal to me. It hangs prominently in my home, and I think of him often as I look at it. Mike, I taught you in grade 7 or 8 at Ben R, and met your dad again this time as the parent of one of my students. He was a person I looked up to, and respected. Hold fast to his memory. I know he will be missed. Sherry Buie

Sam was the principal at Cody when I was there, and I will remember him as one of the best leaders of my teaching career. He was caring and understanding, and treated us, both staff and students, as he would like to be treated himself. I remember one Christmas, when, as a joke, we wrote our “ Dear Samta” letters, and he followed through with goofy gifts for each of us. Marilyn, I respected Sam greatly, and hope good memories will get you through this time of loss. Sincerely, Sherry Buie

Beryl, Chris, Pat and Michelle.... so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. You were not only our neighbours, but friends and like family to our family. Beryl, we were honoured that you and Don were Kari’s Godparents, and that both of you helped us raise our kids. We shared so many good times while you lived in Manitou Park, and though we were sad to see you move out to Goulais, we knew you would be happy in your new life there. Hold fast to memories of good friends and family in your time of loss. Sherry

Sylvia was in Peter Clarke’s Senior Orthopaedic class at William Merrifield when I was there, teaching grade 6. I remember being impressed by all she could do, always rising above her physical challenges. My class and hers did a lot of interaction, and I know my students and I learned a great deal from Sylvia and her classmates. I followed her column in the paper, and now, having learned about the modifications her father made so she could type, I am again impressed by what she accomplished. I am a better person for having known her. Sherry Buie

to Nancy’s Family.... so sorry to hear of your loss. Nancy was a caring and thoughtful lady. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome when I moved into Parkview condos. She made time to show me around the building and introduced me to several of my new neighbours. I was not the only one who missed her when she left our building. Condolences to you, her family. I taught with Ron at both Northern Heights and later at Ben R McMullin, where he was principal., and I was his principal’s relief. He was supportive, caring, and a great role model to staff and students alike. He helped me through some dark days, and I will never forget his being there for me. My most sincere condolences to his family.

As stated by several other people, nobody would see this logo and say, “ Oh, yeah! This definitely says Sault Ste Marie! “. Surely they could do better than this!!!
