Tell us your "northern story" and win prizes (Hint: What did you do over the long weekend?)

SooToday has begun to publish local entries to the "Do North" contest here.  

A few weeks ago, we invited invited everyone to take a turn at being a Northern Ontario travel journalist and share stories about the Algoma District that will encourage others to “Do North.” 

Why? Because nobody knows the North like a northerner.  

There is still time to enter! SooToday is asking people to submit a story about their favourite place or thing to do in Sault Ste. Marie or anywhere in the Algoma District, for a chance to win 1 of 3 truly northern grand prizes.

Not sure what to write about? Tell us what you did over the long weekend. Did you go to the lake? Camp? Go hiking? Stay in town and walk the hub trail? 

Submissions must be one paragraph or more in length, and describe an experience you’ve had, or memory you’ve made that can only happen in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma. Let those outside of Algoma know about the place we call paradise, and what makes it so special to so many. Share your favourite place or activity in the Algoma region that demonstrates why our area is the best place to live, work and play.

SooToday knows that only people who have experienced the North first-hand can tell the story of how it really feels to be here.

Stories can include outdoors places and activities (like fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, paddling, ATVing, etc) or urban experiences (like dining, shopping or special events). But the experience should be unique to our region.

Examples:

The spot where you saw the most amazing sunrise or sunset.

The river you kayaked during that perfect adventure.

The cliff where you saw the most beautiful view on that perfect day. 

That small restaurant on the lakefront that couldn’t be more romantic if it tried. 

Describing that secret fishing hole whose location you will never give away.

Entries can include photo or video to help tell the story, although it is not required. 

All the entries will appear on a special page on SooToday.

Once published, the Do North stories can be shared with friends and family.

The stories with the most shares will win:

• First prize: Canon EOS Rebel T6 Digital SLR ($800 value)
• Second prize: Four Tickets on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train ($350 value)
• Third prize: Gift Certificate to Algoma’s Water Tower Inn ($200 value)

Draw date will be on June 30, 2016. Winners will be contacted that day.
