Hello to Backdoor Bob and the rippers at Westside Cafe

Pat's note is one of many special greetings that SooToday.com is publishing over the holidays from expatriate Saultites.

If you're a former resident now living 200 or more kilometres away, SooToday.com would be delighted to post your message and photo.

It's absolutely free!

But we need to receive your stuff before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve.

********************** Hi all! I hope everyone's having a great time shoveling their driveways - suckers!

Actually, it snowed here in Toronto the other day and all hell broke loose.

Anyway, I thought I'd update anyone who cares what I'm up to these days.

For those of you who don't know me, I feel bad for you.

My name is Pat Kane and I left the Soo after graduating from St. Mary's in 1998.

From there I went to university in London, then journalism school in Toronto.

After graduation I moved to Edmonton for a sports photography job.

Currently, I'm back in T.O. writing full-time for a marketing firm and doing freelance photo work.

I think if Sootoday.com were smart, they'd give me a job as their Toronto correspondent for the Soo.

My photography work means I travel a lot, and after seeing most of the country, I've come to realize how swell we Saultites are - we truly stick together and are proud of each other.

Wherever I go I always meet someone who says, "Hey, you're from the Soo? Do you know So and So or Such and Such?? Wow, you Soo people are crazy!"

Well, here's a note to anyone not from the Soo who might be reading this: Yes, we are crazy and everyone knows everyone in the Soo.

Even if we don't know them personally, we know "of" them, or at least a relative of them. (*This rule, however, does not apply to anyone who ever went to Korah Collegiate).

The Soo may be isolated, polluted and a bit chilly, but believe it or not, Saultites are Canadian legends - keep it up everyone!

Anyway, this is my first holiday season away from home so I'd like to give my best to my family and the huge group of idiots that I call my friends.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Backdoor Bob, The Juva, Frank Thorburn, Little Hank, and all the rippers enjoying poutine at Westside Cafe.

While you're all devouring your home-cooked meals, I'll be ordering KFC and sipping Cognac with a handful of Japanese models.

For those who are coming to Toronto for New Year's - and for anyone who wants to join in the fun - I look forward to a rye-diculous night of ringing in the New Year "Soo style".

Happy holidays everyone! I'll see you all soon, I promise!
