The Soo Thunderbirds suffered their first loss of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season in regulation time on Wednesday night. In their eighth game of the year in Sudbury, the Thunderbirds fell 5-3 to the Sudbury Junior Wolves.

The Central Algoma Secondary School boys volleyball teams opened their seasons at home, hosting the Espanola Spartans, the Jeunesse Nord Aigles and the Elliot Lake Atoms in North Shore League play.
