The City of Sault Ste. Marie is extending its significant weather event as a result of the ongoing winter storm creating "hazardous snowfall accumulations."

In a news release, the city says hazardous conditions are expected in the area until mid-afternoon. As a result, transit service, including Parabus service, is suspended immediately until further notice.

During the event, the city asks drivers to stay off roadways as they are considered to be "in a state of repair."

Public Works will continue responding to the event throughout the weekend, but it may take longer to "ensure public safety."

The city will update the situation as required.
