Thessalon man faces weapons charges

Male charged with weapons offences

THESSALON - April 10, 2013 at approximately 1:20 p.m. the OPP received a call to attend the area of Genelle Street East in the town of Thessalon. 

Information received was the suspect had been seen with a rifle and two loud pops had been heard. 

Further information received was that allegedly the rifle had been concealed by the suspect in a small cedar hedge.

When police arrived on scene, the suspect had left the area.

A local elementary school was advised of the situation and placed in Code Green. 

The school was not a target but Code Green was initiated to ensure the safety of the children and staff.

At 1:31 p.m. the suspect was located and arrested.

Charged with the following is Tyson Giasson (19) of Thessalon:

• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Careless use of firearm
