SooToday.com received the following note today from Sam C., well known to readers of our News Response forum.

Needless to say, there's not a lot of news around the Sault this morning, when we're posting Sam's photos of ducks.

There's an old tradition among journalists, by the way, to never, ever remark out loud about how quiet things are.

Because whenever you do that, the oldtimers say, the feathers start to fly!

******************** Hi Dave:

I snapped a couple of pics of some feathered visitors this morning.

This pair of mallard ducks was initially sitting on my neighbour's garage roof.

The hen next settled onto this cedar hedge before making her way to the ground.

The drake [shown] flew to the ground, but then perched on top of the fence to keep a watchful eye on his mate.

I don't believe they have found a nesting spot here, although they seem to enjoy the remnants of the bird seed left by myself and my neighbours for the over-wintering song birds (never for pigeons!).

A similar pair of mallard ducks - possibly this same pair - was in the backyard last year at about this time.

btw ... I offer these pictures to you without expectation of remuneration, although you may give me credit for them if you so choose!
