GALLERY: When the Prime Minister comes to town

A recap of all our coverage of Justin Trudeau's Friday visit to Sault Ste. Marie

It's not every day the Prime Minister comes to town. In fact, it had been 859 days since Justin Trudeau was last in the Sault — on July 5, 2021, to announce up to $420-million in federal support for Algoma Steel's transition to electric arc steelmaking.

So when SooToday first reported yesterday morning that Trudeau was making a stop in Sault Ste. Marie, it was pretty big news.

Here's how Friday unfolded, in case you missed our full coverage.

The Prime Minister began the day at PUC headquarters, where he helped cut the ribbon on the Sault's new Smart Grid.

Next stop was a tour of the soon-to-be-completed Royal Canadian Legion housing development on Great Northern Road. While there, Trudeau joined Village Media's editor-in-chief Michael Friscolanti for an exclusive one-on-one interview.

The Prime Minister concluded his visit at the Marconi Cultural Event Centre, the temporary home for Legion Branch 25, where he met with several veterans and other community members.

SooToday reporter Alex Flood covered every event. A gallery of his photographs is above.

A video of the Prime Minister's visit, by SooToday videographer Drew Armstrong, can be found HERE.
