For the second time in 10 days, Sault Fire Services were called to the scene of a fire at the former St. Marys Paper Pulp Tower building, near The Machine Shop.
As reported earlier by SooToday, police were investigating an Apr. 17 fire at the same site as a criminal act.
A witness saw two people running from the area in that earlier fire.
Fire crews were called to the scene of the second fire at approximately 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
Smoke was seen coming from windows on the building’s second storey and roof, and a fire was located in a stairway area, said Jeff Lajoie, Sault Fire Services platoon chief.
There were no injuries.
The fire, arising from burning wood and other debris, was extinguished by 5:30 p.m., Lajoie said.
A Sault Fire Services fire prevention officer was expected to arrive at the scene and investigate.
An employee of a nearby business establishment told SooToday he had been informed people had been seen lurking about the area shortly before the fire and smoke were reported Thursday.
