Sault Ste. Marie Police are investigating a fire at Mill Square.

The fire, which occurred Monday Apr. 17 just before 2 p.m., was a small one, involving some old wooden pallets, and quickly extinguished by Sault Fire Services.

No one was injured in the fire, which took place on the second storey of the old Pulp Tower building at Mill Square.

“The fire was intentionally set,” said Carlo Provenzano, Sault Fire Services fire prevention officer.

“It looks like it was vandalism.  Police are conducting an investigation.  There was a witness who saw two people in the area, running from the proximity of the building,” Provenzano told SooToday Wednesday.

“Our officers are looking into it as a criminal investigation…the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is actively investigating that fire, and anyone who has any information about who the two people are who were observed fleeing the scene are encouraged to contact police,” said Cst. Sonny Spina.

If you have any information regarding the fire, call Sault Police at 705-949-6300, or Crime Stoppers at 705-942-7867 or 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
