SooToday.com paid a visit to the waterfront landmark Saturday afternoon to enjoy some entertainment presented by Sault Ste. Marie's comic book and magic man, Darren Emond: The Wizard of Weird.

Emond captivated the crowd that had packed into the former Norgoma dining room with 30 minutes of astonishing illusions and sharp wit.

We spoke with Kim Dietz, marketing manager for the MS Norgoma Museum Ship, about the recent events aboard the vessel.

"I was hired to see if we could increase the usage of the ship and have it utilized for something other than just a tourist stop," he told us.

The Norgoma has been the site for a number of events in 2014, including visual art shows, private parties, film screenings and this year's 46th Parallel art and culture festival.

Dietz told us the vessel will also be used as a film shooting location in the near future.

This is all good news to those who wish to preserve the history of the MS Norgoma and all proceeds from these and other events go to support the ship's restoration.

Deitz said there will be events happening aboard the Norgoma every weekend until the end of October.

Next weekend, October 10 and 11, Darren Emond: The Wizard of Weird will return for performances at 3 p.m. each day.
