Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $130 million in funding for northern communities Tuesday, with 72.6 million earmarked for healthcare systems in Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

The federal government says that asymptomatic travellers returning to Canada will now have to self-isolate in a hotel room for 14 days upon arrival if they do not have a 'credible' quarantine plan.

The new measure goes into effect at midnight.

Trudeau also announced that 1.1 million new N95 masks will be distributed to provinces and territories in the coming days, with shipments of gloves and gowns to follow.

In provincial news, Ontario reported 43 deaths and 483 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday morning, marking the highest single-day death toll in the province.

Locally, a Sault Ste. Marie couple has launched a GoFundMe page in order to buy gift cards from local businesses and distribute them to the city's healthcare workers
