Are you fit enough to be a police officer? Now's your chance to find out during Police Week 2024.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service announced today that it's offering four fitness test practice sessions this May for those who are interested in a career in policing.

Sessions are taking place on Monday May 13 at 8 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Tuesday May 14 at 6 p.m. Space is limited to 20 people per session.

“The fitness test can be a daunting part of the application process for some folks,” says Derek MacFarlane, Sergeant of Uniform Recruitment, in a news release issued today. “This is a great opportunity to come out and try the test to see where you’re at and what you might need to work on in a supportive and encouraging environment.”

Although these sessions are meant for learning and practice, those who pass will have the opportunity to continue with the recruitment process.

Those who do not pass will receive constructive feedback on how to improve their fitness.

These practice sessions are part of Sault Police’s broader recruitment strategy. The police service has been approved to hire 17 new officers over the next four years and, with several members becoming eligible for retirement soon, additional job openings are likely.

Anyone interested in registering must do so by May 3 at 3 p.m.
