Community Builders Awards: Soo Sings for Kids encourages involvement in the arts for a good cause

This year’s recipient of the Arts award, Soo Sings for Kids, has raised $120,000 for local charities over the last ten years by uniting Saultites with the power of song and dance

Soo Sings for Kids, a workplace song and dance competition that has raised money for local childrens’ charities for the last 10 years, is the winner of this year’s Arts award.

Not only has Soo Sings for Kids made a difference for local charities, it has also helped shine a light on talented individuals in our community, exemplified the power of song, dance and performance and has encouraged many people who may not have considered the arts before to get involved and find their passion.

Everyone involved, from the performers, vocal mentors, choreographers, judges, the master of ceremonies and the executive planning committee, are volunteers dedicated to bringing the community together and building workplace camaraderie.

For many participants, it is their first time on the stage, but certainly not their last. Many go on to join local community theatre programs and become vibrant performers in the Sault’s theatre productions. Soo Sings for Kids helps to instill in participants the confidence to audition and pursue dancing, singing and theatre as a passion.

This in turn helps to build the local base of arts offerings and talents in our community.

The Arts award goes to an individual that has helped to strengthen the local arts community by championing an individual, event, idea, ethic or philosophy.

Congratulations to the team at Soo Sings for Kids!
