Community Builders Awards: Phillip Pigeon is a dependable, enthusiastic Unsung Hero

This year’s Unsung Hero award winner has spent the last 20+ years volunteering with the local Red Cross

Phillip Pigeon has spent his entire adult life volunteering with the Red Cross.

From working in the kitchen, assisting with administrative duties, promoting emergency preparedness in the community or responding to major disasters to support individuals affected, Phillip has been involved with every facet of the Red Cross over the last 20 years.

As part of the Personal Disaster Assistance Team, Phillip was part of a rotating roster of volunteers in which he carried a pager and supply case in order to respond to emergencies and manage volunteers. In this role, he has been instrumental in assisting with large scale disasters.

Seven years ago, Phillip started working at Walmart, where he shared his unwavering support and commitment to the Red Cross with fellow employees.

He has been the heart of the Walmart Campaign, a major fundraising initiative for the Red Cross’ Disaster Management program here locally. In addition to acting as liaison between Walmart and the charity,  Philip has helped to educate and encourage fellow employees to get involved in fundraising for the Red Cross.

Phillip embodies unwavering commitment, support and compassion for others through his volunteer work and his job, leading by example and helping to make the Sault a better place.

The Unsung Hero award is presented to an individual whose tireless work and/or volunteer efforts in our community seek to improve the lives of others.

Congratulations on receiving this award, Phillip!
