They do shampooing and waxing, but this isn’t a story about a women’s spa.

Ladies (and gents), this is about good quality vehicle care.

“We’ve opened up Polished Auto Detailing by Northside, which is an 8,000 square foot building behind Northside Toyota,” said Mario Palumbo, Northside Toyota dealer principal.

“We do complete detailing of vehicles, undercoating, shampooing, waxing, paintless dent removal, anything to do with restoring your car back to the way it was when it was brand new,” Mario said, as we visited Northside Toyota at 803 Great Northern Rd. with complimentary SooToday coffee mugs.

“We’ve had everyone trained by the manufacturers how to do the proper detailing, we use eco-friendly products, and because the shop is brand new, we have all state-of-the-art equipment, so we’re very excited about this.”

The shop is open for everyone (not only Toyota owners), Mario said.

“We welcome everyone. We accept any make, any model, any year. It doesn’t have to be a brand new car, a two-year-old car, it can be a 20-year-old car.”

Construction of the new Polished Auto Detailing by Northside building began in November 2017, the business launching in September of this year.

“Business has been great,” Mario said.

“At this time of year, people want to have a clean car going into the winter because obviously in winter your car gets dirty and full of salt, so a lot of people like to have a fresh start as we go into winter.”

Word of the detailing shop has been spread by word of mouth so far, Mario said.

Polished Auto Detailing by Northside is currently selling a grand opening promotion, in effect until Nov. 10.

“The offer is twofold,” Mario said.

“If you buy a gold package, we’ll give you a bronze package for free. If you wish, you can transfer the bronze package to someone else, you can use it as a gift.”

“Having your car cleaned twice a year is really the norm, in  the spring and just before the winter season starts. Most people do that, but we’re happy to do it more often than that,” Mario said.

“We felt there was a need in the community for a nice state-of-the-art cleanup shop that could offer a host of services at one stop.”

“We do sell quite a few used cars as well, and we’re meticulous how we sell our used cars, so we want to make sure they’re detailed properly,” Mario said.

Northside was established as a Toyota dealership in 1995, though Toyota was a big presence in the Sault for decades prior to that year.

Mario’s father Frank Palumbo, who has been in the vehicle sales business since 1977, launched Northside, Mario coming on full time in 2005.

But a business founder seldom really retires, right?

“He (Frank) is still active. He takes his time off and enjoys himself but he still comes in and checks on things,” Mario smiled.
