VIDEO: Meet our future doctors

'A big difference would be an understatement'

Local volunteers are helping to bring future physicians home with the popular "Bring a Doctor Home" Bursary and Hockey Tournament. Essar Steel Algoma Inc. is celebrating the 12th year of this annual tournament, which brings together Essar Steel employees, retirees, and volunteers, to raise money to support students from Sault Ste. Marie who are studying at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. To-date, over $325,000 has been raised by the tournament for student bursaries for our future local physicians.

SooToday's Jasmyn Rowley caught up with a few of our region's future doctors, who are currently training in Sault Ste. Marie. Those originally from the Sault are hoping to return to their hometown when they are finished their studies.

The tournament finals are scheduled for Friday, January 20th at the John Rhodes Community Centre. Donations to the bursary can be dropped off at the Community First Credit Union branches on Bay Street and Trunk Road, until the end of the tournament.
