SAULT STE. MARIE - Sault College strives to create a culture that fosters the expansive exploration of ideas and offers a safe and inspiring place to establish an inclusive environment for all staff and students.

As part of this directive, the College has embraced and promoted a Respect Campaign to define what the culture of respect is on campus, an initiative developed and practiced by students and staff.

The Respect campaign is a student-centered initiative intended to reinforce the good behaviours and attitudes already established on the campus.

This year’s focus on the campaign centers around respect for oneself and respect for others.

“Through leadership and positive role modeling, we have the opportunity to impact our community and build a respectful environment for everyone,” notes Cristina Guzzo, Sault College Students’ Union Program Manager.

“This campaign is an example of the many great college initiatives as it directly connects to Sault College being an invitational college.”

The Respect campaign began in 2012 and since then has created a number of initiatives promoting a respectful campus.

In conjunction with the Respect Campaign's anti- bullying focus this month, Sault College students wanted to take a stand against bullying and demonstrate that everyone on campus can make a difference.

Today, the Sault College Students’ Union launched a video that was created in partnership with External Relations, to help promote its anti-bullying campaign on campus.

Students and staff were also encouraged to sign a pledge to be respectful on campus at all times.

“The Respect video is a tool to encourage students to get involved with the campaign as well as demonstrate to all that “Respect Starts with you,” our campaign slogan,” adds Guzzo. The inspirational video can be found here.

The group plans a number of events for second semester including a mental and healthy living week and will partner with the Dove campaign in promoting positive self-image.

For more information on this college initiative and how you can get involved please contact Cristina Guzzo at 705-759-2554 ext. 2745.
