Can FIRST® LEGO® League teams help us master natural disasters? In the 2013 NATURE’S FURY℠ Challenge, twelve teams representing schools from three different school boards in the Sault Ste. Marie and North Shore area competed at the Provincial Qualifying Tournament at Sault College this past weekend.

The teams were Anabionics (Anna McCrea Public School), Aweres Blizzards (Aweres Public School), Blind River Lego Builders (Blind River Public School), Cougar Robotics (Central Avenue Public School), Gatorbots (Greenwood Public School), Holy Cross Fury (Holy Cross Catholic School), Robot NDS (Notre-Dame-Du-Sault), Panthers (Pinewood Public School), Panthers Too (Pinewood Public School), Robo Royals (Queen Elizabeth Public School), Optimus Prime (R.M.Moore Public School), and Rosedale Fury Fighters 4512 (Rosedale Public School).

The many volunteers and Sault College put on a great display of Gracious Professionalism in a well-organized and fun-filled day of project and robot design presentations and friendly robotic competition.

Notre-Dame-Du-Sault (shown) were the Champions of the day, which is judged to be the team that best embodies the FLL experience, by fully embracing the Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in both the Robot Game and Project.

The two other qualiflying teams were the Aweres Blizzards and the Rosedale Fury Fighters. All three teams have the opportunity to compete at the Provincial Championship hosted by the University of Waterloo on January 11, 2014.
