ArtSpeaks taking it to the streets in Jamestown

'It's about bringing people together who may otherwise feel stygmatized' - Event coordinator Maria Parrella-Ilaria.

The ArtSpeaks Project took to the streets of Jamestown this week to allow area residents a chance to take part in an art project aimed at giving voices to those who may feel they have none.

"There are major events that could be happening here that would help folks who live here feel like they're part of a larger community" says Maria Parrella-Ilaria co-ordinator of the Art Speaks Project.

Guests and families in attendance had the opportunity to help add some colour to the area.

The planters outside the Soup Kitchen were the canvases, allowing residents in the area to express themselves through words, images and even mini installations.

Art kits were handed out with drawings by local artists speaking on mindfulness and kindness.

Entomica also joined in the event, encouraging participants to plant "seedbombs" in the planters full of wildflower seeds native to the area.

ArtSpeaks provides art-as-therapy programming to adults/youth impacted by trauma.
