SAULT STE. MARIE – The Algoma Fall Festival is pleased to present the 2016 Group of Seven Exhibition featuring co-founder, Lawren Harris. The exhibition will feature exciting new elements using technology, virtual reality and interactive areas for a full artistic experience.

The Living Gallery features a downloadable app – wheretheuniversesings.com. Eight Harris paintings are placed throughout the exhibition, where visitors can point their mobile devices for the artist’s insights.

Outside the Machine Shop is the ACR red boxcar; the set for the production of the documentary film, Painted Land: In Search of the Group of Seven. Inside is a smaller recreation of the same boxcar.

The artists came to this region for 10 years. The first two years, 1918-19, were spent in a boxcar. The boxcar is outfitted with bunk beds, stove and water tank served as home and studio to Lawren Harris and fellow Group of Seven artists when they painted the lakes, rivers and fall colours of this region.

“A caboose is a most comfortable box…all the comforts of a home, save that all outdoors acts as the plumbing. Said c’boose is hauled to a siding north of the Soo and left there for days while we proceed to get a strangle hold on the surroundings.”  Lawren Harris

Village Electric has created a 360° virtual reality experience featuring spectacular footage from locations where Lawren Harris painted, that are combined with his paintings to give visitors an immersive experience in the landscape that inspired the artists.

Finally, visitors will be able to “walk into” a painting at the giant 3-D recreation of one of Lawren Harris’ most famous paintings – “Lake Superior.”  A 12’x 8’ model of the work has been created to provide a fun photo op stop.

The Exhibition opens to the public on Friday October 14th from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday October 15th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the exhibition will also present the Northern Ontario premier of the documentary “Lawren Harris – Where the Universe Sings!” created by White Pine Pictures.

Tickets will be available online at www.algomafallfestival.com and at the Community Theatre Box Office in the Station Mall. View the entire Festival line up at www.algomafallfestival.com.
