NEWS RELEASE

ALGOMA CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC

*************************
The Sault Ste. Marie Music Festival celebrates its 80th year at this season's final competitions this Sunday.  Every year hundreds of music students perform for guest adjudicators from across Canada.  Numerous awards and scholarships are given and the finest performers from five divisions (Piano, Strings, Voice, Guitar & Winds) are recommended to compete at the

Rising Star Competition (students 14 and under) and at the Shield Competition (21 and under). A group of outstanding students are also recommended to participate at the provincial competition.

Both the Rising Star and Shield Competitions are on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at St. Luke's Cathedral. Rising Star begins at 3 p.m. and the Shield at 7 p.m.  The guest adjudicator is Warren Beck, a professional classical music agent from Toronto. Tickets are available at the door. $10 for adults and all students and children are free. Your $10 admission covers both competitions.

Come out and cheer for these exceptional students. Both concerts will have a variety of music and you will be elated at the quality and energy of  the performances by these gifted young musicians.  The order of the performances was selected through a draw by Dr. Metro Kozak, one of our guest adjudicators this season.  The Sault Ste. Marie Music Festival is coordinated by the Algoma Conservatory of Music.  A full list of the award winners is listed below:
