Meet Ward 4 candidate Rick Niro

Rick Niro Ward 4 Candidate

SooToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to voters. Meet Ward 4 candidate Rick Niro:

I was first elected to City Council in November of 1988. After serving the first three year term, I was re-elected for three more successive terms.

In 1996 I secured a job with G&K Services Canada Inc. as Plant Manager, and in the year 2000, I chose not to seek re-election because of those new job responsibilities.  My employment as Plant Manager required a detailed understanding of budgeting, and controlling operating expenses, an asset that I would be able to apply in my duties as a City Councillor.

After an absence from Municipal Politics of ten years, I decided that I wanted to return to City Council and once again represent the constituents of Ward 4.

In October of 2010, the voters of Ward 4 returned me to City Council as their representative, and subsequently re-elected me again in October of 2014.

At the end of this present term, with twenty (20) years served on Council, I am able to continue to provide experienced representation in a professional and ethical manner.

I am married to Pauline Niro, and we have three children and five grandchildren.

I was born in Sault Ste. Marie, where I attended St. Mary’s College and Algoma University, and have been a lifelong resident of our new Ward 4.

Recently I retired as Plant Manager from G&K Services, and have been able to devote full time attention to my duties as a City Councillor.

I have always, and will continue to demonstrate fiscal responsibility, and I remain committed to providing necessary services without overburdening tax payers.

Over the years I have served on thirty-one (31) Committees, six (6) of which I am presently serving on.

It has been my honour and privilege to represent Ward 4 on City Council. I have been an active member of Council, not only for Ward 4, but for the City of Sault Ste. Marie as a whole.

The years I have served, have made me experienced and knowledgeable in Municipal issues, and I look forward to working for you again.
