Meet Ward 2 candidate Jason Young

He is committed to building a future by focusing on the present and remembering the past
2018 Jason Young Ward 2 candidate

SooToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to voters. Meet Ward 2 candidate Jason Young:

In 2003, Jason and his family returned to their roots in Sault Ste. Marie after pursuing educational and career opportunities in the Ottawa area. As a manager with two different Fortune 500 companies, Jason dealt with operations, finance and budgets. More importantly, he learned to get things done in large organizations, and to define and reach goals. Our Council, like a business, must have realistic, achievable goals. Those goals must first serve the needs of the residents of the Sault.

Jason left industry in 2009 to pursue a Bachelor of Education. As a licensed Machinist and an Algoma U graduate (Economics), he earned broad teaching qualifications, and joined the Algoma District School Board in 2010. He understands firsthand the choices and challenges faced by our young people and wants to foster opportunities for their futures within our community. Grandiose schemes are great, but we should first focus on infrastructure and smart spending first to build a solid foundation for tomorrow’s jobs and industries.

As a high school teacher, Jason has the privilege of working with tomorrow’s voters. The broad social, financial, and cultural diversity of our schools is an excellent reflection of the reality of Ward Two.  From Black Road to West Street, we are the workers, builders, entrepreneurs, and executives of Sault Ste. Marie. The traditional Indigenous name “Bawating” has never been more fitting.

Jason wants the honour of your vote, and the privilege of being your voice in our Council. He is committed to bringing his tenacity and drive to the task but will always be accountable to you. He WILL return your calls and WILL hear your concerns. He is committed to building a future by focusing on the present and remembering the past. His campaign slogan, “Practical, Principled Politics” says it all.
