Meet Ward 1 candidate Paul Christian

SooToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Meet Ward 1 candidate Paul Christian:

I am a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie, having dedicated my entire adult career to public service in our city. I have been married to Julie for 27 years and have two daughters, Jenna and Laura.

I am a high school teacher coach and mentor. My areas of focus are business studies and Coop education. I am a very strong proponent of initiatives centered on entrepreneurship and apprenticeship opportunities for students in the area.

I am a two term councilor who has worked hard to advance initiatives that I believe address the issues that face our community. My energies have been focused on economic growth through network development and strategic planning, social welfare and infrastructure investment.

I take great pride in championing initiatives like the Soo Summit, which brought together former Sault residents to discuss our community growth strategy, and how they may be able to assist in the future. I also sought and received council approval to create a community based initiative which eventually became the Future SSM project, currently underway in the city. Finally, I moved the resolution which helped pave the way for the city’s first splash pad.

I hope I can continue to serve this great city as a returning Ward 1 Councilor.
