Meet candidate for mayor Ted Johnston

He would like to see a return to the city that existed when he arrived a decade ago

SooToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Meet candidate for mayor Ted Johnston:

A former Canadian Armed Forces Demolitions Engineer who went back to College at the age of 40 to become a Funeral Director.  It was that later career that brought me to Sault Ste. Marie in 2009.  Completing my internship at O'Sullivan Donnelly Funeral Home I discovered that I liked The Soo as a place to live and was fortunate enough to be offered a full time position with the company.  I have lived  on Albert Street since then and have witnessed the shocking and rapid decline in the city in recent years.

I would like to see a return to the city that existed when I arrived here a decade ago, and this is the primary driver behind my run for Mayor.  Between my time as a soldier and my decision to become a Funeral Director I worked in the automotive sector in southern Ontario.  During that time I became an expert in statistics and Continuous Improvement.  Teams that I was part of found millions of dollars in cost savings and improved the methods of manufacture and service delivery while still managing to improve quality and job satisfaction.  Procedures and training manuals I created are in use by facilities as far away as China and Hungary.  If elected I will be able to apply these same team driven improvement techniques at the city to save money and improve services.  By teaching and mentoring the various services and departments at the city on how to use these tools improvements will be made in almost every aspect of the functioning of city hall.  I served my country in uniform, I am more than qualified to serve my community as Mayor.
