Ballot selfies are illegal. Just so you know

Can't even show your ballot to anyone. That's the law

The city doesn't have any direct reports that people are doing illegal things with their ballots during early voting opportunities, but it has heard this sort of thing might be going on.

So the city this morning issued the following reminder:

Voters are not permitted to show a marked ballot to anyone. This includes taking a picture or video of your marked ballot. Taking a picture violates the Municipal Elections Act Section 49 (3)(a)(b) which states:

(3) No elector shall,

(a) take a photograph or video recording of his or her marked ballot; or

(b) show his or her marked ballot to any person so as to reveal how he or she has voted, except in connection with obtaining assistance in voting under paragraph 4 of subsection 52 (1). 2016.

Consider yourself reminded, and cut it out with the ballot selfies.
