Over the past two years we’ve all gained a new appreciation for having comprehensive healthcare close to home. We realize now more than ever that residents deserve access to the best care right in their own communities.

We’ve also realized that patients need alternative solutions to their health care needs. While the pandemic may have introduced us to the concept of virtual care, it quickly became a lifeline and clearly it is a good idea that is here to stay. Next up is increasing access and availability.

The Telemed MD Walk-in Clinic at East End Pharmasave has a lot to offer its patients. They have a team of Ontario-certified physicians, specialists and on-site nurses ready to help; patients can expect rapid access and lower wait times.

Here you can choose in-person or virtual visits. You can also book your own appointments using their website, which is convenient and easy to use.

Telemed MD Sault Ste. Marie has a full-time licensed nurse on staff. This allows the clinic to offer more services than your basic virtual clinic, such as publicly funded vaccinations, clinical assessments and on-site procedures, such as ear wax removal.

In a sign of how enthusiastically Saultites have embraced telemedicine, Telemed MD Sault Ste. Marie recently hired an office clerk, in addition to the licensed nurse, to handle the demand. Furthermore, the clinic is now hiring a second nurse to deal with the rapid growth, with plans for a second site that will be more centrally located.

“The clinic is now seeing more than 25 people everyday and the increased staffing will allow us to see even more patients. The clinic was built with four exam rooms and a nursing station, so we were planning on growing, but we were a little surprised it happened this quickly,” says Frank Longo, one of the owners of Eastend Pharmasave.

The virtual care platform allows you to seek medical attention from the comfort of your own home. You also have the option to visit in person, on-site at one of the clinic’s many locations across Ontario. It means that no matter where you are, you can see a doctor.

Other advantages? Same-day appointments are available, services are 100% covered by OHIP for Ontario residents, both male and female doctors are on staff and they have an easy process in place for specialist referrals.

The list of specialists available includes Psychiatry, Dermatology, Paediatric Care, Gynecology, General Internist, Nephrology, Cannabis and Weight Management. Over 80% of the consults can be done virtually. In the event that their specialists are unable to see you, they will recommend you to your nearest medical facility.

Staff work closely with local community health partners such as LifeLabs, Public Health and diagnostic centres. Some of their specialized programs such as Weight Management are designed to tackle many on-going community health crises within Ontario.

The co-owners of East End Pharmasave, Jordan Jack and pharmacist Frank Longo, are also proud supporters of community theatre in the Soo. Pharmasave is the title sponsor of “Sister Act - The Musical”, which will be running from Wednesday, March 30 to Saturday April 2, 2022 at the Sault Community Theatre Centre. Part of the West End Theatre Project, the play is filled with dancing, powerful gospel music and a truly moving story. Order your tickets here and be sure to mark it on your calendar.
