The Algoma Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Network is hosting an evening of remembrance at the upcoming Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness 'Wave of Light' event.

The evening is an effort to provide solace and support to those who have experienced the pain of pregnancy and infant loss. Every year over 37,000 families in Ontario experience this type of loss and too often, families suffer in silence.

The in-person gathering takes place on Sunday, October 15, at 6:30 PM in the fireside room at the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel at 492 Wellington Street East in Sault Ste. Marie.

The event is part of the global Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time when families and communities come together to remember and honour the children who left the world too soon.

During the Wave of Light event, participants will light candles, creating a symbolic wave of light across the country as a way of remembering, and to show grieving families that they are not alone.

The global initiative aims to raise awareness about the prevalence of pregnancy and infant loss and to provide support to those who have been touched by the ordeal.

The evening will include moments of reflection, discussions, and resources for coping with loss.

The event is open to all who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, including parents, family members, friends, and healthcare professionals. Attendees will receive a candle to light during the ceremony and if they wish, can share a memory.

Anyone can submit a name or date to be displayed during the gathering by contacting Sherry Beaton at 705-945-5050 ext 2423.

The Sault’s Water Tower and other local businesses will be lit purple as part of the international Wave of Light. Downtown business windows will be purple as a show of support. IRIS cutouts are also available for purchase at Stone's office supply with proceeds going towards continued support for these families.

The Algoma Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Network aims to create a safe and supportive space for families to share their grief and connect with others who have faced similar challenges.

The wave of light event is hosted by Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel with the support of the IRIS Group, Algoma Family Services, Algoma Public Health, Nogdawindamin - Birth to 6 Team, Sault Ste Marie Downtown Association, and Stone's Office Supply.

The Algoma Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Network invites the community to join them in this evening of remembrance and support.
