A new takeout restaurant in Pine Plaza is providing Sault Saint Marie residents with unique fusion pizza styles.

Gurwinder Bains and his family moved to the Sault Saint Marie area three years ago after falling in love with it while on vacation, admiring the hiking trails, beaches, and kind people in the area.

However, he missed the fusion style pizza he enjoyed in Southern Ontario and thus decided to start the process of opening his own restaurant: Hunger Point.

After finding a location at 701 Pine Street, Bains spent about a year renovating the place and hired a professional chef to help create some of his mom's old recipes, which he says bring back childhood memories.

With options that blend flavours and styles like butter chicken pizza, beef shawarma chicken pizza, and Tandoori chicken pizza, Hunger Point’s unique menu combines Punjab influences with North American options as well.

"We are here to provide quality and fresh food and are motivated to bring back the traditional quality of food," he said, adding that everything is made from scratch and fresh pizza dough is made daily.

Customers also have the option to build their own pizza or choose from different menu items like wings, burgers, fries, onion rings, veggie burgers and refreshing drinks including mango lassi, mango shakes and masala chai tea.

Hunger Point is open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
