Man faces murder charge after woman found dead in Sault Michigan

Woman found dead suffered 'severe laceration' to her throat, police say

A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Tuesday. 

Jacob Russell Mckerchie is currently being held without bond at Chippewa County Correctional Facility.

Hayley Anne Smith, a 27-year-old from Sault, Mich., was found dead in a Minneapolis Street residence with a “severe laceration” on her throat, according to police. 

Mckerchie’s next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 26.
