Lakers swept by top-ranked Mavericks

The Laker hockey team resumes action next weekend at home

Facing one of the top teams in the country, the Lake Superior State Lakers hockey team dropped a pair of decisions to the Minnesota State Mavericks in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend.

On Friday night, Jared Spooner had a pair of goals in the third period as Minnesota broke open a tight game en route to a 5-1 win in the opener.

Charlie Gerard assisted on a pair of goals for the Mavericks in the win.

Jake Jaremko, Parker Tuomie, and Dallas Gerads also scored for Minnesota State.

Goaltender Dryden McKay stopped 20 shots.

Pierre-Luc Veillette had the lone goal for Lake State.

Lakers goaltender Mareks Mitens made 26 saves.

On Saturday, a shorthanded goal by Marc Michaelis just under eight minutes into the second period was the game-winner as the Mavericks blanked the Lakers 2-0.

Jaremko had the other goal for Minnesota State. McKay made 21 saves for the shutout.

Mitens finished the night with 32 saves.

The Lakers return to action on Dec. 13 in the opening game of a weekend series against Bowling Green on home ice.
