Lake State grant program supports seven area projects

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – The Graymont Community Development Fund, administered by Lake Superior State University (LSSU) since 2017, has issued a total of $95,000 for the 2019 grant cycle. The selection committee authorized seven awards for the current grant cycle.

“Lake Superior State University’s commitment to administer the Graymont Community Development Fund supports and strengthens our region through a range of community-based projects,” shared Dr. Rodney Hanley, LSSU president.

This year, the awardees from local townships, schools, and non-profit organizations had a wide variety of projects to benefit the community:
    •    Engadine Consolidated Schools to support the expansion of a welding classroom
    •    Engadine-Naubinway Lions Club to support storage rental for the annual yard sale fundraiser
    •    Hendricks Township to support phase III of the townships conference room expansion and remodelling
    •    Hudson Township to support continued improvements to the township fire hall
    •    Luce County Ambulance Service to replace outdated Toughbooks used in the field for patient care reports
    •    Newberry Area Ministerial Association to support Feeding America hunger relief services
    •    Trout Lake Township to support electrical repairs and upgrades within the township campground

“The management of the Graymont Community Development Fund further demonstrates LSSU’s dedication to forging community relationships and cultivating collaboration opportunities in the EUP,” stated Dr. Lynn Gillette, LSSU provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The Graymont Fund was established to provide community development opportunities for local municipalities, schools, and other entities. The next application period will open in February 2020.
