Graymont Community Development Fund issues $95,000 in grants

Selection committee authorized eight awards for the current grant cycle from a field of 22 applications

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. - The Graymont Community Development Fund, administered by Lake Superior State University (LSSU), has issued a total of $95,000 for the 2018 grant cycle. The selection committee authorized eight awards for the current grant cycle from a field of 22 applications.

The 2018 awardees include local townships, schools and non-profit organizations;

  • Engadine Historical Society – Engadine Historical Museum Roof Repair
  • Garfield Township – Garfield Township Kitchen Renovation
  • Hendricks Township – Conference Room Expansion and Renovation, Phase III
  • Hudson Township  – Fire Hall Garage Development
  • Newberry Elementary School – Problem Solvers Tomorrow Program
  • Top of the Lake Snowmobile Museum – I-500 Snowmobile Race Diorama Display
  • Trout Lake Township – Trout lake Township Park & Campground Modernization and Repair
  • Love in the Name of Christ of West Mackinac County – Roof Repair and Protection

“Lake Superior State University’s partnership to administer the Graymont Community Development Fund further demonstrates our commitment to our local communities and region,” shared Dr. Rodney Hanley, LSSU President.

The Graymont Fund was established to provide community development opportunities for local municipalities, schools, and other entities. LSSU has directed the Fund since 2017.

“LSSU is pleased to further support our local communities through the management of the Graymont Community Development Fund.  The modest awards granted through this fund have the potential to help improve and strengthen programs and projects across the EUP,” stated Dr. Lynn G. Gillette, LSSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The next application period will open in February 2019.  Eligible projects must be located in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
