SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. -- Calling all ice fishermen! The LSSU Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) will hold their 2nd Annual Fishing for a Cure Tournament from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 16.

The tournament will be held on the south shore of Munuscong Bay at Dan's Resort in Pickford, Mich. The entry fee is $10 for adults, with children 12 and under free. Walk-in registration welcome.

Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish caught, with first place receiving $150 in prizes and cash. Net proceeds benefiting St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital will be accepted before and during the tournament.

The LSSU TKE Chapter raised $800 last year and is hoping to reach $2,000 this year. The LSSU local effort is part of a nationwide fundraising drive to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In 2016, TKE pledged to raise $2.6 million for St. Jude’s in 6 years.

Last year, TKE had already reached $2.1 million. TKE is on track to reach and surpass the goal by 2020. St. Jude’s was founded in the 1960s by entertainer and TKE alum Danny Thomas to fight childhood leukemia and other cancers.

Treatments from St. Jude’s have helped raise the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 per cent to over 80 per cent. TKE works to fulfill Thomas’s dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life.”
