SAULT SAINTE MARIE, MICH. - The Coast Guard, along with partner agencies, is slated to conduct on-the-water exercises in the Straits of Mackinac Wednesday and Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of a Marine Transportation System (MTS) recovery training.

More than 50 participants as well as 10 boats from federal, state, county and local agencies and stakeholders will be participating in the recovery drill.

"Disruptions to the MTS; whether manmade, accidental, or the result of natural forces; can have a significant impact on the U.S. economy," said Steven Keck, the chief of contingency planning and force readiness at Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie. "The MTS recovery plan is designed to address a variety of hazards that may occur, and it is imperative that the Coast Guard and its partners train to respond to any such disruptions by ensuring the safe, rapid, industry supported recovery of the MTS."
