The International Bridge Administration today announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totaled 126,948 for the month of June 2019. This figure represents a decrease of 8.0%, a difference of 11,054 crossings as compared to June 2018.

Traffic for the calendar year-to-date at June 30, 2019, is 618,572. This represents a year-to-date decrease of 9.9%. The bridge has processed 101.9 million bridge crossings since 1962.

Total bridge traffic is nearly identical to volumes previously recorded in 2017, with a difference of 1% or 6,370 crossings. Commercial traffic accounts for 40% of the total $3.2 million toll revenue earned for the year to date. Year to date, commercial traffic is 7.2% of total traffic. Nearly all commercial traffic categories made positive gains in June, with the greatest increases recorded in the 7 to 11 axle semi-truck classifications. June represents the first month to month increase in commercial traffic since December 2018.

The International Bridge self-funds with toll revenue all operational costs. Operational costs include all maintenance of the bridge structure, the Bridge Authority toll plaza and maintenance facilities, and building maintenance and support costs for the Canada Border Services Agency facility.
