Bridge traffic continues to decline

Commuter fares make up more than half of bridge traffic now

Traffic for the calendar year-to-date at Oct. 31, 2019, is 1,155,522. This represents a year-to-date decrease of 7.22%. The bridge has processed 102.5 million bridge crossings since 1962.

The International Bridge Administration today announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totaled 114,948 for the month of October 2019. This figure represents a decrease of 5.8%, a difference of 7,026 crossings as compared to October 2018.

An analysis of traffic statistics for the month reveals the following:

The International Bridge self-funds with toll revenue all operational costs. Operational costs include the bridge structure, maintenance facilities, the Bridge Authority toll plaza, and building maintenance and support costs for the Canada Border Services Agency facility.
