Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a break and enter to a storage facility at a Batchawana business.

Sometime during the darkened hours of Monday night and Tuesday morning thieves forced their way into a storage building at the business. The owners of the business reports that tools and power equipment have been stolen from the facility.

ALARM DETERS THIEVES FROM FURTHER THEFTS

Officers with the First Nation Police and the Sault OPP responded to an alarm at an Echo Bay building supply business last night.

At about 10:30 p.m. last night officers with the police services were advised that the alarm at the business had been activated. Officers arrived to find that someone tried to force open a window at the business. It is believed that no entry was gained to the business.
Motor Vehicle Collision Claims Two Lives

Deadly Motor Vehicle Collision East of Sault Ste Marie

Espanola

The Ontario Provincial Police in Espanola responded to a motor vehicle collision which occurred at 7:30 a.m. on September 19th, 2006 on Highway 17, Lorne Township, City of Greater Sudbury, one (1) kilometre east of Nairn Centre near Wabagishik Road.

An eastbound Volvo car with three female occupants crossed the centre line and collided head on with a westbound mini van with one occupant. Fire Departments from Nairn Township and Greater Sudbury both responded to the scene.

The driver of the Volvo, Gertrude DESMEULES, age 60, of Saint Foi, QC and her front passenger, Colette DESMEULES, age 62, of Québec, QC were both killed in the collision. The rear passenger, Rita DESMEULES, age 66, of Rivière Ouelle, QC was extricated from the vehicle and air lifted to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury where she is listed in serious condition.

The driver of the mini van, Barbara BURKE, age 35, of Philip St., Sudbury, ON was transported to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Sudbury by land ambulance and is also listed in serious condition.

A post mortem on the driver is scheduled for September 20th, 2006 in Sault Ste. Marie.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator along with a Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the investigation which is continuing.

The highway was re-opened to traffic at 1:00 p.m.
