Waether Causes Problems

Scary weather made for some scary times in our patrol area last night. Downed trees, fallen power lines and a transformer that shorted out just west of Neebish Road kept power crews busy. We responded to keep people safe from potential injuries but the experts attended to restore power and resolve the safety issues.

Missing Your Ohmmeter

A lady on August Street at Batchewana First Nation, Rankin Site, was perplexed to see some wires hanging out of her mail box. Police were called and attended the scene. Close scrutiny of the mailbox revealed that someone had deposited an Ohmmeter inside and left the wires dangling outside. There is no explanation as to why this device was in this location and the homeowner does not own this device. If you are missing your Ohmmeter perhaps we have located it. For those who may be unfamiliar with this sort of measuring tool (read:me!), it is designed to measure electrical resistance.

False Alarm

A burglar alarm activated shortly before midnight last night at a craft store on Moccasin Street, in Garden River. Fortunately it was not intruders that set it off. It appears that the weather may having contributed to this false alarm.

Rifle Shots Reported

There was a report of a rifle shot in the Gemah Street area of Garden River just after 9:00 P.M. Tuesday night. Patrols were made but the source of the shot was not discovered. This is a residential area so the sound of a firearm being discharged is disconcerting. Common sense should dictate that one would not fire a weapon in such an area but perhaps we are hoping for too much. It is hoped that the person responsible will refrain from future acts of this nature lest someone is grievously injured.

Injured bear

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) - On September 14, 2005 at 12:00 a.m. police received a call to attend a residence on Mississauga Avenue regarding a possible injured bear.

The bear was located in the back yard of a residence and was visibly injured.

The OPP officers assessed the situation and fearing the imminent danger of the public destroyed the bear.
