DID YOU REMEMBER TO GET YOUR BOATING LICENCE ??
Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. would like to remind all boaters of the changes in boating legislation that came into effect on September 15 2002.

As of last fall, any operator of a pleasure craft that is under 4 meters in length and fitted with a motor must have the Pleasure Craft Operator Card. To obtain a card you must complete a written test and obtain at least a 75% grade. The tests are offered by private companies in several locations around Sault Ste. Marie. You have until 2009 to obtain your Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

The fine summer weather is now upon us and many boaters have been washing and waxing their crafts in eager anticipation of another boating season. A reminder to everyone to ensure that you have enough Canadian Coast Guard approved life jackets or personal floatation devices on your vessel. It is now the law that the life jackets or personal floatation devices be in good condition and that they be the proper size for the people on board.

Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. has a limited number of Safe Boating Guides available at the front counter of the detachment on Great Northern Road. Stop by the office during business hours and pick up your free copy.

Happy sailing !!
