Child Hospitalized After Dog Bite

A four year old boy from Searchmont spent the night in Sault and Area Hospital after being attacked by a dog yesterday.

Yesterday at about 10:15 a.m. ambulance and police were called to a Hult Road home in Searchmont after receiving a report of a child badly bitten by a dog.

The investigation has determined that the parent of the child went next door to the dog owner’s house to seek assistance for a problem in her house. The little boy was with the mother at the time. The three returned the parents house and the dog was with the three.

They went into the house and the dog remained outside. The two women heard the dog growling and went to see what was happening. They discovered that the dog had attacked the child. The child was bitten about the face and head. An ambulance was called and the child was taken to Sault and Area Hospital. The child required stitches to close the wounds. He was kept in the hospital overnight and remains in hospital this morning.

The dog is of a mixed breed and has been quarantined. The Algoma Health Unit has been notified and this investigation is still ongoing.

PSSSST - Wanna Buy A Fish

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to a house on Hwy 17 in Batchawana after a report of stolen plywood and a large fish from the home.

Six sheets of painted plywood and a five foot long ornamental fish were taken from the home. Obviously these are not articles that you could hide in a backpack or hockey bag while you make good your escape from the house. What should be especially obvious in someone’s garage or basement is the five foot long ornamental fish.

If someone in your neighbourhood has a new lawn or garage ornament that may just fit this description, call Sault Ste Marie OPP or Crime Stoppers.

Stolen Pick Up Found In Echo Bay

Residents on a remote side road behind Echo Bay called the Sault Ste Marie OPP about a pick up truck that was stuck in the mud on isolated part of a side road in Echo Bay.

It turns out that the 1995 Dodge pick up truck was stolen last week from the City of Sault Ste Marie. The truck was bogged down in the mud and the thieves damaged the cap of the vehicle. The truck was towed back to Sault Ste Marie.
