IT'S THE START OF POLICE WEEK AND BOATERS AWARENESS NIGHT
Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

Today is the start of police week in Ontario and this year's displays at Station Mall are better than ever !!

The Michigan State Police is in attendance and has brought a vintage 1937 State Police patrol car.

Of special interest to the public and the media is the display of the Ignition Interlock system that is now mandatory for everyone in Ontario that is convicted of Impaired Driving.

It is now the law in Ontario that everyone who has their drivers licence suspended for impaired driving related charges, that those people will only be able to drive a vehicle that has a Ignition Interlock Device installed in any vehicle they drive.

A representative of the Ministry of Transportation will be at the Sault Traffic and Road Safety (S.T.A.R.S.)booth today to demonstrate the device and explain the costs that are involved in installing one in a vehicle.

Tonight from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm the Sault Ste Marie OPP will be hosting a free Boaters Awareness Night at the Holiday Inn. Law enforcement and boating safety agencies from Canada and the United States will be on hand to answer your questions. There has been significant changes on both sides of the border that deal with entering into each others country and the rules and regulations for doing so. Just what is considered a ?landing? when you are boating. Come out the Holiday Inn have all your questions answered.

There are also free door prizes for everyone who attends.
